Frank Macias Elementary is one of the relatively new campus’ in the Clint ISD. FME is located in Horizon City, Texas just outside of El Paso. FME is the fifth elementary school for Clint ISD and the third out of four schools for the Horizon City area.

FME split from Desert Hills Elementary in January of 2001. The doors to our new building were opened on January 7, 2001. At that time there were over 750 students in grades Pre-K through 5th. The first principal was Mr. Richard Gentry and his assistant was Mr. Raul Mendoza.

The student population consists mainly of low-income at-risk children but that didn’t stop them from achieving their academic goals. Our students had some of the highest test scores in the district.

In the 2001-02 school year, Pam Howard became the principal and her assistant was Mr. Raul Mendoza. The population increased to almost 1,000 students from the 750 students we started with just seven months before. The school consists of grades Pre-K through 5th grades. We are still in the growing stage, but seem to be filling up the campus rapidly. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!

2003

In 2002-03, we welcomed back our principal, Pam Howard. Our assistant was once again Mr. Raul Mendoza. Our school consists of grades Pre-K through 5th grades. We seem to be overflowing at the seams! The students population has grown faster than anticipated and we are running out of room. There is talk of splitting the campus in order to accommodate the rapid growing student population.

Mrs. Pamela Howard continues as the principal at FME. We now have a new assistant principal, Terri Mena as Mr. Raul Mendoza left. Terri Mena was formally the Instructional Facilitator at our camps, and she stepped up to her new duties with gusto! The fourth and fifth grades have been moved to Carrol T. Welch Intermediate School while the school district starts a new middle/high school. Even with two grades gone, and our campus becoming a Pre-K through third grade campus,  our students number around 950. But that doesn’t stop us from giving our students the best education they can receive. Our students are working hard and achieving the goals set by the district and our principal.

In 2004-05, Mrs. Pamela Howard continued as the school principal with Terri Mena as her assistant. Our campus consists of grades Pre-K through third grades. We continue to make excellent strides towards achieving our academic goals.  The members of our  faculty and staff are hard working to give each of our students the education they deserve.

The 2005-06 school year started off with FME sharing their campus with CTW. Due to the large growth in the district CTW moved to FME in order for Horizon Middle School to use their campus for one year until the new middle school gets built. Mrs. Pam Howard continued as principal along with Mrs. Terri Mena as her assistant principal. Mr. Charles Vass is the principal of CTW along with Mr. Martinez as his assistant. Due to the excellent preparation there were only minor problems that were handled with ease. Because two campuses are sharing one campus it was decided to also share the school yearbook.

FME once again was a TEA Recognized campus and received a Gold Acknowledgment Award for Reading, Math and Attendance.

The 2006-07 school year started out with our campus receiving TEA Exemplary status! Way to go FME! Pam Howard the principal moved to Horizon High School as their principal. Emi Gonzalez returned to the Clint district as the new principal of FME and Terri Mena remains the assistant principal. Bill Patti, formally the Math Leader became a new second assistant principal. FME is once again a Pre-K through third grade campus with CTW moving back to their own campus.  Even with CTW leaving our campus we are still growing rapidly with the campus population nearing the one thousand mark.

The 2007-08 school year started out with our campus receiving TEA Recognized status. Emi Gonzalez returned as the campus principal, with Terri Mena, and Bill Patty as the assistants.

A beloved teacher, Mr. Ray Santillanes, passed away, leaving a void in our hearts. Mr. Santillanes was a teacher at FME since the doors first opened, and worked at another campus, DHE, before the opening of FME.

The population of FME continues to grow at a steady pace. Our campus is a Pre-K through third grade with a student population of well over 1,100 with more enrollment expected. New sections of classes have been added to the kindergarten and second grade classes, and more sections of third grade are expected.

The 2008-09 school year starts with our campus receiving TEA Recognized status, missing Exemplary by just a few points.  The student population continues to grow at break neck speed reaching over 1,200 students at the beginning of the school year.  Growth is expected to continue with more sections of classes added.  We continue to be a Pre-K through third grade campus with some grades totaling 14 sections.  Mr. Emi Gonzalez returns as the campus principal, along with Mr. Bill Patti as his assistant.  Ms.
Terri Mena moved to Horizon Middle School to be an assistant principal and Mr. Eusebio Bretado joined us as our second assistant principal.

On January 2, 2009 we lost a beloved teacher, Mrs. Rose Arreola to cancer.  Mrs. Arreola taught at FME since the doors of our school opened.  She also taught at another school in our district DHE.  Mrs. Arreola began her teaching career in Mexico before coming the the United States to teach.  She will be missed by all, especially her students.  Our hearts go out to her family.

FME ended the year on a high note.  We are again and Exemplary campus!!!!!!!!!!!  Way to go students and teachers.

The 2010-11 school year starts with our campus again receiving TEA Exemplary status.  We are so proud of all the students, faculty, staff, and administration for our educational success.                                                                                                                                                                                           Mr. Emi Gonzales is the principal, with Mr. Bill Patti and Mr. Eusebio Bretado as the assistant principals.                                                                                                                                   The population of FME and the district continues to grow at a steady pace. Our campus is currently a Pre-K through third grade with a student population of well over 1,300 with more enrollment expected.  We are bursting at the seams, with every classroom being used as well as portables.  Next year the plan is for our campus to become a Pre-K through fifth grade as the district adjust each campus to meet the population growth.                                                                                                                                                                          Our district has added another campus, Ricardo Estrada Jr. High.  The campus is named after one of our superintendents that passed away.  Mr. Estrada gave over 40 years of service to the district as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and continuing up to superintendent.

The 2011-12 school year starts with our campus again receiving TEA Exemplary status.  We are so proud of all the students, faculty, staff, and administration for our educational success.

Mr. Emi Gonzales is the principal, with Mr. Eusebio Bretado and Ms. Gabriela Soto as the assistant principals.  Ms. Soto came to us from Red Sands Elementary in our district.  Our campus will miss Mr. Bill Patti as he was assigned to CTW campus this year as their assistant principal.

This will be a very challenging year for all schools in Texas, as the state budget for education was reduced by billions of dollars.  At FME we will strive to continue with our desire to educate all students to the best of our abilities.
