Dr. Edward L. Gabaldon joined the Clint Independent School District as Superintendent of Schools in June of 2009. Dr. Gabaldon has led the district to an unprecedented three straight Texas Education Agency "Recognized" ratings (2010, 2011, 2012) and implemented a college and career readiness program, College for All, at all schools. Through his leadership, the District secured funding and approval for implementation of an early college high school, Clint ISD Early College Academy, which opened its doors to students in August of 2012. He oversaw the expenditure of a 92 million dollar bond which included the construction of two new schools, Ricardo Estrada Junior High School and a new Clint High School. In 2011, the District earned the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle Gold Award for financial transparency. Each year he has presented balanced budgets and increased the fund balance by over 20%. He restructured the child nutrition and food service program to increase the number of students who are served breakfast and lunch each day by 18%. In 2010, he established the Superintendent's Scholarship Fund and the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.
Dr. Gabaldon, who has more than 34 years of educational experience, began his career in the Ysleta Independent School District as a middle school science teacher. His administrative career began with Assistant Principal assignments in Ysleta ISD and neighboring Socorro ISD. While at Socorro, he was also a middle school principal and held directorships in Human Resources and Instructional Services. In 2003, he obtained his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. The same year in Socorro, he became the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. He was also the Assistant Superintendent for Priority Schools in the district for a period of time. Prior to his arrival in Clint in June of 2009, Dr. Gabaldon served as the Chief of Staff for the El Paso Independent School District.
As Superintendent for Clint ISD, Dr. Gabaldon has served community organizations and agencies. He has served as Chairman of the UIL Region 22 Executive Committee (2010), a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of El Paso County (2011), and as the Region XIX representative for the Texas Association of School Administrators Executive Committee (2012). He is also a member of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, the FBI Citizen's Academy Alumni Association, and the Texas Association of School Boards.
Dr. Gabaldon is originally from Fabens, Texas, a town in the Lower Valley area of El Paso County. He and his wife, Angela, who is also an educator, have two sons, Adam and Michael.
